// ROCKET ARENA

ROCKET ARENA is a fast-paced, 3v3 arena shooter for all ages! All weapons are completely projectile-based, attacks impulse players backwards up into the air, and KOs (i.e. kills) are scored by knocking enemies out of the arena boundaries (think, Super Smash Bros. knockout mechanics)!

I was the only combat designer on the team for a majority of Rocket Arena's 3+ year development. In that time, I was responsible for designing and tuning all of the core combat systems in the game. I also designed, prototyped, and polished all 11 characters that launched within Rocket Arena's first season (as well as several characters yet to be released). Once we were eventually able to expand the Combat Team, I took on managing and mentoring the other gameplay designers.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Combat Team and mentor other gameplay designers
  • Lead the design, implementation, and tuning for all character and core combat features
  • Script all first playable versions of core combat mechanics and character abilities, drive playtesting of said features, and take each to ship quality

// CHARACTERS

ROCKET ARENA has a diverse roster of characters, each with their own unique abilities and movement mechanics. Check out the character trailer below to see all of the launch characters in action!

Although Rocket Arena is technically a "shooter", I also took heavy inspiration from fighting games when developing Rocket Arena's characters. Each is designed to stand on their own as a competitor, not fill a specific pre-defined team role. Fictionally, each character comes from their own world. One's from a futuristic city in the clouds, while another is from the mysterious ocean depths below. All come together for a chance to claim ultimate victory in the Rocket Championship Tour!
